starts and finishes

This week I have been ... working in the studio. Going threw totes and drawers and shelves of fabric trying to use some of it to complete a couple of projects around the house. I found this old hamper at a local thrift store and decided to make a liner for it!  vintage barkcloth and vintage hand crochet lace two of my favorite things!
My yarn and needles arrived on Monday so I got a good start on this  little number I'm so excited about this one. Im thinking about making a couple of modifications to the pattorn.
 d
I've also been taking some time to just sit and enjoy the quiet of winter.  This is a hard one for me,  I mean no TV no movies nothing and no one there to entertain me.  I have gotten so used to making someone/thing else responsible for my entertainment with no participation  from me. So this week for a couple of nights its  just me and  a knitting project  or a book. It feels good to unplug for a while.
another studio fabric use up.  This I made for my daughter, a dust cover for her very nicest dress and a pouch for her dress shoes.
also been trying to focus on eating as much whole foods as I can.  Lots and lots of veg. and I'm even working on my bread making skills using this book  every loaf gets a little bit better.

enjoying the late afternoon sun as it slips away for another long evening.
and I finished up with my desert vest.

I like to be able to look back at a week and see that things have been accomplished. I like this space to remind myself that I did get things done and that I am making my home/life for me and those that I love.
This is what is important to me and it's a good feeling to be able to see and say that yes I am living my dream.
I feel like to richest person in the world and so totally blessed to be able to do this.
How about you are you living your dream in some way? I hope so

A Room Of His Own

this is a very very very delayed post on the room that I redid for my Grandson this summer.   One that I'm pretty proud of.  The room was my son's before he moved out and he is responsible for the great paint job.  I thought he did such a great job that I decided to just work with the colors Brown and blue  perfect for a little boy right?
I did very little in the way of spending money on anything new  most everything was just re-purposed.
The only new things were the crib the wall words and the fabric for the quilt.  everything else I had ... this slip covered chair with footstool has been in just about every room in my house  I love white slipcovers they go anywhere and when they get dirty I can BLEACH if I need to.
This dresser has also been in a few different rooms. I did repaint it and added some different hardware that we had out in the garage
This is a picture of the little man himself! it was a gift from my sister-in-law she is great with the camera
Wall Words, I think I paid maybe 10.00 for this set. love the saying
and finally the little quilt that I put together.  I'm not a quilter but I think it turned out pretty well.
So there it is finally I got this one posted.

The Door

A few weeks ago I saw a picture of a kitchen door painted with chalk board paint   since then I have run across several other kitchen spaces painted with chalk board paint  so I thought I'd give it a go.

At first I wasn't sure about the whole Idea I kinda like things abit more tidy and the door was looking a little messy at times  but  I have to say that I love seeing what my family has to say.  This is after a weekend of having the kids stop in both while we were at home and away.  oh yeah and the door is metal so the chalk holder that I think was an old Match holder is just hung on the door with magnates
Autumn and JT after a full day of canning goodness!
now for the fish taco's
( and yes I'm looking at new wall color options for this winter )

Why I love Sundays

This is why I love Sundays
Especially Birthday Sundays
A typical Sunday is spent getting ready to have this kids over for Sunday dinner  but this day I had the whole day to  just sit and enjoying spending time and knitting and visiting.

this is to me is a gift greater than anything that I can think of,  spending a day " My day"with my Family and look we had a little knit along as my oldest learns to crochet and is now working on a blanket for JT. Yup it was a good day
my family all under one roof just spending time together.
I didn't get a picture of Son Shayne he spent his day sitting on the computer putting tons of pictures on a memory stick for a digital frame that I got as a gift from my Daughter Autumn.
Hubby was manning the grill making a great birthday dinner ( Steak a Shrimp )
yeah it just doesn't get any better than this

A Fun Week With Family

Family in From California... we had fun with lots of this Lots of this

Learning new things ... My nephew learned how much fun a kayak is

Oh yeah and I learned that it may not be the best idea to take your cell phone along with you on the kayak trip. yup that sucker went right into the water!!! after finding it, which took about 5 minutes! I thought she was a gonner but thanks to mom who helped me take it apart and my kids who knew to put it into a bowl of rice completely covered for a couple of days, it now WORKS!!!

yeah it works I was so happy that I would not have to spend another 100.00 or so to get it replaced. The RICE did it.

Finding The Perfect Fabric

For Mothers Day my Daughter Autumn made me this beautiful necklace! I just love love love it
But, I had nothing to go with it. The green beads are sooo pretty and I love them with the brown cording that she macramed for the rest of the necklace. It made the whole thing a little bit more organic looking. Well I looked and looked and looked for a top with the green in it but no luck. So off to Jo ann fabrics I went. I found this fabric ( on sale ) How perfect are the colors! I just love it.
I used one of my favorite patterns

Now I'm off to work on the next project on the list.
Have a great rest of the week

Fund Raising for a Daughter in Need

Looking for a good home!
Well it's been a busy week with working in the shop and getting the yard in shape for this summer and when all was going according to plan , I got a call from a frantic daughter " Mom my apartment building is on fire!" so long story short I have a daughter with out a home of her own. I'm looking for way to get her back on her feet Please take a moment to visit my other blog for the details
Basically I'm trying to raise some money for her by selling some of my totes via my blog.
In the mean time this is what I've been working on with my nervous hands .... almost finished
